Program Tuition covers participation in a morning and an
afternoon workshop, the Russian Literature, Language, and Culture Lecture
Series, the Doestoyevsky Tour, the Literary Walks in St. Petersburg course, the
three-hour Nuts and Bolts Conversational Russian Class, orientation materials,
transportation from the airport on three consecutive arrival dates
(group-flight dates and the days immediately preceding and following those),
the Russian host-issued visa invitation and Herzen University registration
surcharge (please note that the cost of visa-processing at one of the four
Russian consulates in the US or abroad--on average, $100 for 2-week processing,
$150 for one-week--is not included; read more on that in the
Travel and Visa Matters section), weekday breakfasts, and admission to
all program venues and events (including a bus tour of the city; visits to the
Dostoyevsky, Akhmatova, and Nabokov museums--additional fees will be charged
for optional excursions to Novgorod and Peterhoff). Participants cover the costs of their transportation to the airport upon departure because of the varied logistics of departure times. Please note that the cost
of optional academic credit is not included in the total costs above. For information on funding see the Contests and Scholarships sections.
Apartment Option - SLS rents two- to three-bedroom apartments
within 15-20 minutes by bus or metro to the Herzen Inn. Participants share
apartments with other participants, each in his or her own bedroom. We
recommend this option only for those students who either have some familiarity
with the city of St. Petersburg or a conversational grasp of the Russian
language. It is a more independent housing arrangement requiring a metro, bus,
or cab ride to the Herzen Inn.
Shared- Shared accommodations are available in the Herzen Inn
hotel (where the SLS office is located), an adjacent hotel, and in the Herzen
University dormitory. In either situation participants share a bathroom with
one or more other participants.
Single- Single accommodations come in several different
layouts. Some of them are actual single rooms with a private bath. Others are
two single rooms with a shared bath, more like a suite. There is a very limited
number of single rooms available.
For more on the Herzen Inn, read the Housing
& Facilities section of the site.
