TOURISM:

Lithuania is a member of the European Union and NATO. English is widely spoken in service establishments. Ask for English menus—most places have them available. The most popular ‘fast food’ restaurant is the Pica (pronounced Pizza) chain—they all have outdoor terraces and very nice Italian-style brick oven pizza.

Lithuania’s currency is the LITAS, which is currently pegged to the EURO:

The climate in July & August is mild with intermittent rain, especially closer to the coast.

Lonely Planet has a TERRIFIC website about travel to Lithuania:

BALTIC STATES, the addiction:

Vilnius is only a five hour bus ride from the beautiful capital of Latvia, the port city of Riga and its nearby beaches in one direction and pristine hiking trails (steep hills, primeval forests & 12th century castles) in the other. If you rent a car, it’s faster and the drive can take you through some of the most astonishing picturesque land in Eastern Europe (storks, thatch-roof houses, the spectacular Hill of Crosses) If your travel arrangements allow for extra time, a visit to Riga and surrounding areas is a wonderful add-on. The medieval walled city of Tallinn in Estonia is also quite worth a visit, and is very nearby, with frequent bus or rail service from Vilnius. Then from Tallinn it is easy to hop a ferry to Helsinki in Finland…and from there…
