We recommend making airline reservations as soon as possible upon having been accepted into the program. If you are admitted into the program we will be in touch with you regarding your travel plans. US AND CANADIAN CITIZENS Visas are required for entrance into Kenya. They can be obtained at the Kenyan Embassy or Consulates in one’s respective country — or upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, for a $25 fee (in cash in exact amount as change may not be given). Please note: your US or Canadian passport should be current and valid, and expire no earlier than six months after the date of your departure from Kenya. A NOTE ON HEALTH CONCERNS IMPORTANT! In order to attend SLS-Kenya, all participants will have to submit proof of overseas medical insurance! We suggest you consult your current insurance provider to see if your plan will cover you (if not, ask them what they recommend). Another option is to purchase traveller's insurance, Medex, or some other comprehensive plan for the duration of your trip. We recommend you look over the National Center for Infectious Diseases website on East Africa carefully for all your health concerns. You may also check the U.S. Department of State webpage on Kenya. It carries the following information: "Travelers can check the latest health information with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia. A hotline at 877-FYI-TRIP (877-394-8747) and a web site give the most recent health advisories, immunization recommendations or requirements, and advice on food and drinking water safety for regions and countries. A booklet entitled Health Information for International Travel (HHS publication number CDC-95-8280) is available from the U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402, tel. (202) 512-1800." In addition we offer the following comments: Take a supply of all your prescription medications (if you are on them) to last the entire trip. You may want to consider getting malaria pills (ask your physician or see link above).
